MK 2 Ford Focus problem, assistance wanted

Featured Replies

Hi guys, as the title says I am in need of some assistance with my Mk2 2005 focus, bit of background first.

The car and myself live in Thailand (I'm from the UK but live here), the car is a Euro spec 2005 Mk2 auto saloon and has the "engine systems fault/ reduced acceleration" showing on the dash with the right red led showing.

I left the car for about 5 weeks with the battery disconnected, on my return the rats had been at the NSF ABS sensor and side repeater wires, all chewed through, I repaired the wiring, ABS light went off/ side repeater worked all good I thought, a day or so later the dash warning Engine system fault came on and has been on since, the car starts, stops and runs as it should with no reduction in power.

I checked all the wiring and harnesses for extra rat chewing with nothing found, checked the battery its good, less than a year old, I removed the Instrument Cluster checked and re-soldered the plug pins on the board, cleaned and checked all joints with nothing found.

I have a Autophix 7150 dedicated Ford scanner and it brings up various codes (C1750,P2121, P2123, P2138, most delete but P2138 doesn't), pointing to the APP sensor (some others to do with door/ window sensors that I doubt would be a problem). The data stream from the APP showed a slight fluctuation in voltage (0.28v) on circuit 1, all the wires to and from the APP checked out good so I fitted a second hand pedal assembly, it now has a slightly lower fluctuation (0.13) on circuit 1 but the dash fault remains.

At this point I am thinking cluster fault, if I was in the UK I would be sending the cluster away for checking/repairing but I cannot find this service in Thailand.

My next step is to get a second hand cluster and plug it in to see if the dash message goes, I know it wont run but would point to the IC if not its looking like a PCM fault I'm thinking.

So, hopefully somebody on here has had this before and can assist, I hate just throwing parts at a fault as a mechanic myself it just feels wrong.

Thanks, Adi.

Re-flowing the solder on the cluster doesn't fix the problem. Old solder needs removing and replacing.

I suggest you still have the cluster fault

Thanks for the reply, I've bought a solder sucker and a better soldering iron as I was thinking the same
