Maxidot to Convers+ instrument panel upgrade

While having time on my hands (well transmission fluid!) And not knowing when to give up. I bought a Convers+ panel from a scrapper on ebay and fitted it.

Cost 80quid with postage doe a nice clean unit (just the two dials, without temp and fuel) version. Only 69k on the clock and mine had 95k so a simple re-mileage in Forscan.

 

A bugger to get out. Found a video on YouTube I'll link later. Basically pull door trim from a-frame by OBD port. Remove 3 T15 around OBD. By transmission selector remove lower trim by pulling our 2 plastic plugs with small flat bladed screwdriver. Then upper trim with T15. Then trim under steering column. Then you should see two cross head screws either side of/below steering column remove these. This should release the plastic trim above the column and unclip the slide out part. You now have access to 2 more cross head screws retaining the cluster. You NEED also a credit card or similar in the middle of the upper part of the cluster to release a plastic retaining clip. Tease it all forward and you should have access to the connector. 

Carefully remove the connector by levering up the locking plastic lever and away it comes.

Refit as above. Taking care not to drop the crosshead screws like I did. 

Forscan offers a maintenance function to reset the mileage (by increasing only) and I was fortunate to get a cluster with a lower mileage.

 

If i recall correctly I also read the BCM and saved to the IPC as backup.

End results: looks good!
