Thought I'd bought a fake WiFi extender - I hadn't!

Featured Replies

Over the weekend I bought a TP Link branded WiFi extender, was reduced, but still factory sealed and unopened. On getting it home and reading the box, I noticed a glaring spelling error. the word, 'turns', was spelled, 'truns'.

I immediately thought it was maybe a fake item, and as it plugs into the mains was concerned over it's safety.

(Wasn't worth returning to shop as it was a 'day out', and would have cost more in petrol than the item cost)

I actually emailed TP Link tech support with HiRes pics and got a response this morning stating that is was a known spelling error, and the item was genuine! Just goes to show.... well, I'm not sure what it shows LOL

A spelling error was pointed out on another forum recently.  High value item so of course, suspicions were raised.

Turns out it is genuine, and the company claimed it's a 'security feature' as the fakes won't have it.

This reminds me when once in Bury Market we spotted one of those professional pedicure handheld jobies. Expensive for what they were. Anyway these were only a few quid because of the misspelling of the word professional. If I remember right it was spelt proseffonal.

Isn't it great getting something higher priced at less than half for misspelled words printed on the item.

The shop I got it in was the last one, so I had nothing to compare it with (even if I'd noticed it at the time). Was in B&M today where they have a whole batch of them in for Christmas, checked all the boxes, they all have that same spelling error! 😂

Irony being, if it was a stamp with a spelling error, it'd be worth £1000s!
