Brake pedal squeak

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have got a brake pedal squeak. I have applied WD40, brake fluid was changed like 2 months ago but it is no better, can anyone suggest anything.

thanks.

Does your cars brakes have anti squeal shims? Some systems do and others don't.

You could take the pads out and apply an ultra high temp grease to the backs of the pads.

Is it the pedal squeaking as you move it or the brakes( usually discs ) squealing while rotating ?

It is the pedal itself making the noise.

I had this on a Kuga 2021 and it stopped by itself but 6 months later, the master cylinder started leaking and dropped fluid down the pedal onto the drivers mat.

Both my current & previous Focus also do this.  On the previous one the handbrake also squeaked which lead me to suspect that the squeak is actually coming from the linkage under the car.  Never did find it though!

My focus does the same thing with the clutch pedal @Haz60 I applied some WD-40 to the mechanism but it didn’t stop the squeak when applied, then it stopped for a while but I can hear it again now

If it's 'just' the pedal it must be the soles of your shoes squeaking whilst operating the pedal. Let's say a miss match of materials between the pedal rubber and the materials of the shoe soles.

This is something I recall quite a few years back on another forum.
