Generic code readers very often don't or can't read all of the Ford specific DTC's.

Use FORScan and a vLinker FS cable to be sure to get all of the Ford codes and be able to clear fault DTC's.

FORScan: https://forscan.org/download.html

vLinker FS cable: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vgate-vLinker-Adapter-FORScan-MS-CAN/dp/B0952P4MLP

Did you get the fuel from the same garage the second time this problem occurred ?

yes, its bp uitlmate,  it was ok when leads etc was changed.

If it’s black smoke and smelling of petrol, it could be over fuelling or the airfilter/intake restricted.

its white smoke.

Ah !! New Pope has been elected 🤣

Now back to the car problem. Could this be an issue with the fuel tank breather being obstructed and causing a vacuum in the fuel tank ? This in one of those random faults that could be many things.

Are any of the spark plugs wet and smelling like petrol? If so then you've got a leaking fuel injector (for any cylinder for which the plug is wet), the spark plug is getting wet with fuel which is suppressing the sparks, thus you get a cloud of unburnt air and fuel vapour out of the exist exhaust.

seen a video on you tube, and this guy says its the purge valve. what do we think.

Googling p0300, is usually also has other codes to pinpoint which cylinder is misfiring.

white smoke was associated with weak mixture or water vapour. Are you loosing coolant?

otherwise could be one of many possibilities, most of which might store codes.

checked coolant its just above max.

it was misfiring on cylinder 2.

Have you checked the plugs for combustion colour and condition confirming nr 2 cyl.?

compression check ?

putting the plug in a different cylinder ?

im guessing that engine doesn’t have swirl flaps in the inlet manifold.

just guessing without dtcs.

Yes.  Had the same happen on other petrol cars as well.  Purge valve is the usual culprit.

Sorry, not up on Forscan but what elm327 are you using ? Guys here find vlinker fs (as above) or obdlink ex the most reliable.

It look like a airline fracture on cylinder four.  So looking for another cylinder head. Not the news I was hoping for.

Has it been stripped to confirm?  Can't say I've heard of a cracked head on this engine before.

just a quick update,  car went in on the 18th december, couple of days later i got the call that the new head was leaking via the valves, looks like it had been on the shelf a while, anyway thats going to be returned, it was the head gasket that had gone, he didnt return to work till the 2nd of january, sent the old head off to be checked for leaks and it passed and had it skimmed, so the head will be fitted today with new head gasket, having the cam belt done and water pump while its stripped, so fingers crossed should get it back this weekend.
