Private plate

Featured Replies

Just assigned a new private plate b24hln, but for some reason when I do an MOT history check the plate is not recognised. Can anyone help?

It won't be updated on the MOT system until the vehicle has it's next MOT with the new registration. I know it seems odd but over the years I've had many different plates on different cars and the governments/DVLA system for MOT's never updates until the vehicle is next tested

What about on vehicle details website?

They catch up eventually, but some can take over a year. They buy the vehicle data in from DVLA and therefore it takes a while. It just means that when looking for things you have to use the original registration. You will probably find even the Road Tax checker will take 24/48 hours to show the vehicle as being taxed. Insurance companies are very hit and miss as to just how quick they update, but usually within a few days.

This is why if Plod pulls you over you get 7 days grace to take your documents in to allow for lag in the system.
