Locking Wheel Nut Socket!

Featured Replies

My wife has just taken ownership of a 2020 Fiesta, which has come with a tyre inflation kit but l couldn’t help but notice there is no socket to remove the locking wheel nuts. This l understand as there is no wheel brace as well, l also checked with a neighbour thinking that our’s had gone missing but they’re in the same boat. The reason l ask is that next week l’m getting one of the wheels refurbed and the garage will need to get the wheel off!🤷🏻‍♂️Anyone else in the same boat/car?

Are you sure it has locking wheel nuts ?

Many these days do not. Best send the wife outside with a torch to take a look 🤣

2020 Vignale should have locking wheel nuts.  The key has probably been lost in 3 years.

Check boot side pockets, front seat map pockets, underneath front seats, inside arm rest, and under floating shelf in arm rest.  I am assuming you'd notice if it was in the glovebox, cup holder or door pockets.

If it was purchased from a Ford dealer or a car supermarket then I'd go back and ask them to provide one.  In most cases nowadays it seems cheaper for them to break the old ones off and supply a new set.

Worth checking your paperwork/handbooks

Locking nuts usual supplied with a card with a code on it if replacement is needed.

I store my card with the books for safe keeping.

Most people seem to leave the key code card in the bag with the key itself.

My new ST-3 came with the gunk and was supplied with the locking wheel nut (and the card with code on it...kept out of the car as it should be 😉). As others have said, back to the seller to get them to supply it or provide a new one (how they do that without the code I'm not so sure).

Only on wheels that have  steel wheels/trims won't have locking nuts. . All alloy wheels should have locking nuts as standard.

My mums 21 year old Toyota Yaris had all 4 locking nuts seized (through lack of use), so after having them removed, I just put standard nuts on them. I'm not losing any sleep on having them potentially nicked 😂

I was just refering to fords from New. What happens to locking nuts afterb is down to the owner . Think it's a thatcham/ insurance requirement. Was told that some time ago, but I can't see anything to confirm on internet.

These days most cars come with alloy wheels, possibly just me, but, I don't see the point in locking wheel nuts these days.

Especially as you can buy removal sockets, and also buy brand specific kits.
