Mk3 focus alarm issues

Featured Replies

Hi wondering if anyone can help. I have a mk3 focus 2014 and I've been having issues with the alarm going off at random times and nothing I do sorrs it out it can go off 10 times during the night.  Recently it has just started been very strange to the point when I press the start stop button to turn the car off the ignition is off but the engine is still running and I have to put my car in gear to stall it.  I'm just unsure what to check can't disconnect battery for the alarm as it has a back up battery no notice on dash for doors  boot or bonnet etc. It also turns ignition on when it's locked and no one's in it which I only noticed last night.

Thank you

Firstly let me just ask, was that a Ford dealers code reader and/or FORScan reader ? If it was a generic code reader, even the super expensive ones then it is unlikely that it would read all of the Ford specific DTC's.

When the car alarm is activated then the reason is very often logged and can be checked using FORScan to see what is triggering it. One of the most common causes is the microswitch on the bonnet release latch. It gets very wet and dirty and causes false triggering.

That is quite a concern and would point towards a damaged wiring harness or a fault with the Body Control Module. The issue could be unrelated to the alarm problem but without the Ford DTC's it's impossible to say for certain. If the two things are connected then the most probable cause will be water ingress to the Body Control Module.

No it wasn't a ford scanner it was just an expensive code reader so would it be worth a try to book into ford for a diagnostic? Also I have been advised about the bonnet sensor which I have ordered to replace. As for the engine issue I have an electrical mechanic that has booked it in on the 12th December to strip it down. I'm hoping it is just a cheap fix but not looking likely :(

If you have a Windows Laptop then you can do much of the investigation yourself. The FORScan software is free to download and use. You will need a lead to connect the laptop to the cars OBDII port. The recommended lead is the 'vLinker FS'

FORScan: https://forscan.org/download.html

vLinker FS: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vgate-vLinker-Adapter-FORScan-MS-CAN/dp/B0952P4MLP

Ford dealer diagnostic prices tend to start at around £120 and go up (very quickly).
