Clutch replacement gone wrong :-(

Featured Replies

Hey folks, so did my partners Fiesta clutch last week. Bought a full kit including the hydraulic actuator.

Apart from the whole thing being a bit of a nightmare on my drive sat in a puddle, I finally got the box back on and everything back together.

Go for a test drive and fine in first, but as soon as I put my foot down in second clutch slips 😞

Still managed to accelerate the car, but really it's pretty bad, I just don't understand why!?

The only thing I will say is my partner said the package has already been opened, but everything looked fine and unused.

Is it possible the hydraulic system is putting pressure on the plate to make it slip? I thoroughly bled the system.

Any help appreciated!

In a word, No.

That would require the hydraulic system to be holding pressure which is just not an option. If the clutch is slipping then either it's not assembled correctly or you have a faulty pressure plate/friction plate.

Or, you have a hydraulic leak and fluid is getting on to the clutch plates.

Did you degrease the pressure plate before fitting it?

Is it possible you fitted the friction plate backwards?  (So gearbox side is facing engine)

Yes it is, but there were no clear marks! I guess it's coming apart again! 😪

I did initially, and hoped if this was the case, it would burn off, but there has been no change. Happy no leak now as levels are stable.
