Light and Loose Steering

Featured Replies

Hey there

i’ve encountered a strange issue this Winter with my car i’ve had for a few months now

i’ve noticed light and loose steering that I’ve picked up on, took it to a mechanic they said the rod ends the bushing everything all fine took it another much more of the same, even went to set up an alignment to which they told me car is not out of alignment.

i’ve got myself forscan and turned off the drift pull compensation which helped for like a week but still giving me issues,

any ideas as to where to go now?

Have you checked your tyre pressures?.

When I got my 2019 St line 140 delivered I was a bit worried how light the steering felt compared to my 2016 model. Turned out they had delivered it with 42psi all round instead of 33front 26 rear as it should have been.

Apart from the usual checks - I have the same issue with my 2020 Focus STLine - coming from my MX5 I feel the steering is far too light and, in fact, very sensitive on the m'way in particular.

However, things settle down in Sport mode which I suspect reduces the steering power.

Also I feel that on m'way where there are e.g. lorry-tyre-width grooves etc. the car steers itself - I think I'm probably correcting the steering based on what I see of the road surface and the car seems to be doing it as well, again the effect seems to be reduced in sport mode.

My wife, driving the Focus, doesn't have these issues. But she doesn't like the MX5 steering at all, its too lively esp at this time of the year on Summer tyres!
