Membrane

Featured Replies

Hi all

I’m the middle of tracing leaks on son’s fiesta. Have found what looks like a leak on each door . Has anyone replaced or sorted similar leaks. Any info or help appreciated

Have had water gathering in doors in the past as water can pass through the door but should exit through the drain holes in the base of each door (check drain holes aren't blocked)

The membrane should stop water ingress into the vehicle.

When fitting equipment in the past as a job I always made sure that the membrane was refitted as found or better with non hardening putty

Hi thanks for your reply.
used the UB dye which must admit was pretty good at exposing the leak. Drain holes were clear and free flowing.

Never thought  about the putty. Are the membranes a plastic sheet or firm plastic. I am hoping to be able to take off , clean up and reseal. New ones are so expensive.

cheers

Definitely thicker than black sacks..the stuff we used was more like plastic rubble bag which we cut to size ..hope that helps

Those are just used for front wing stuffing on recent models. :whistling:

have you used the membrane below.

Yes, but for building purposes. It is very similar to the plastic membrane used inside the car door only it's black instead of semi-clear. The sealer that the car manufactures use to stick the membrane to the metal door is very much like the black rubberised sealant that you get for making repairs to plastic gutter. It never quite goes hard and remains flexible.
