Steering Wheel Controls

Featured Replies

The steering wheel controls on our mk7 are very intermittent. Will it be the switch itself needing replaced?

Could be the switch pack if it is only one side not working, but it could also be a problem with the clock spring.

Clock spring?

This is NOT for your car, but just an example of the Clock Spring.

It allows the steering wheel to turn without snapping all the wires that go to the switches.

What would be the usual culprit?

It really is a 50/50 call between the switch pack or the clock spring.

If you use FORScan then there a chance it will tell you which is faulty, or at least you will be able to run diagnostics and test the switch pack.

What is Forscan and what do I need to run it.

Sorry I’m a newbie at this

Thanks for replies. That’s very useful

Mine stopped working, turned out to be dust in the switch.

I had the same problem. Spraying contact cleaner in and around the switch solved it for me.

I will try that first. Always start cheap right?
