Ford Focus estate 2016 issue

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've got a 2016 Ford Focus estate which has developed an issue and hope someone can point me in the direction.

Last Thursday I drove to local supermarket about a mile away. Went in came out and my car wouldn't start. Hadn't left anything on and was literally in the store no longer than 5 mins.

Left it 10 mins and it started and I got a message saying I had 0 diesel mileage which I knew was incorrect as when I'd got home the previous night I had 168 miles.

Anyway put some fuel in to be safe and drove to work. Started up no issue coming home and registered the miles I previously had and the top up.

All was well with the car until tonight. Went to start and nothing. Again registered 0 fuel even though I know I had 280 miles left. Jump started and a message came up on dash saying normal mode

I'm hoping someone will say its a battery issue?

Do you think it's worth me getting an OBD reader and checking for faults.

Hi Leanne. Don't bother with an OBD scanner. Go online and download Forscan. You'll need an OBD connector tho. Forscan is the best scan tool for Fords and its free for the first few scans.

Hopefully Unofix will pop on and post links for what you need.

As for your problem that could be a dodgy fuel level sensor but Forscan will show that up.

It's a battery issue !!   Hope that makes you feel much better now 🤣

Actually I don't think it's a battery issue 🙁 There are a few possible causes including a faulty fuel sender unit, or water ingress in the BCM, but before guessing you need to use FORScan and check for any DTC's otherwise the guessing game gets expensive.

You will need a laptop running windows and then download FORScan (it's Free). Also you need a connecting cable 'vLinker FS'
