Hesitation On 1.6 Tdci

Featured Replies

We recently bought a 2006 TDCi 1.6 and have noticed bad hesitation when pulling away in first gear. It seems to be worse when pulling away up hill. As I've never owned a diesel before I was wondering if this was normal as it seems it would be dangerous if crossing a busy junction. There are no check engine lights on.Any help would be appreciated.

do you notice any rasping noise when accelerating quite hard?

If so, you may have a split intercooler pipe, which is a common problem, so much so, Ford changed the design of the pipe from a rubber concertina to a solid pipe. The hose clip was cutting into the rubber due to engine vibration, eventually leading to the split. I found it sluggish in acceleration until this was done.

Thanks Hawker,it turned out I got a check engine light on later and the fault was a split airmass/turbo intake hose.

I have same car same year. Mine is the same ,but i have no engine problems. I make sure i give it a little more power when setting off from roundabouts and junctions.
