What were the most scrapped cars of 2023?

www.rac.co.uk

A new report has revealed the make and model of the UK’s most scrapped vehicles this year.

According to the findings, 798,363 vehicles were destroyed from January to October 2023 – which is 60,000 less when compared to the previous year.

Data retrieved from a Freedom of Information (FOI) request by Autocar showed that the Ford Focus was the most scrapped car of the year, closely followed by the Vauxhall Astra and Vauxhall Corsa, which came in second and third place respectively.

The report also highlighted that twice as many cars and vans were registered in the UK when compared to the total that were scrapped during the same time period.

The top 10 most scrapped cars in 2023

Ford Focus – 42,639

Vauxhall Astra – 35,578

Vauxhall Corsa – 34,405

Ford Fiesta – 32,935

Vauxhall Zafira – 26,898

Volkswagen Golf – 25,903

Renault Clio – 14,955

Ford Mondeo – 14,218

Volkswagen Polo – 13,722

BMW 3 Series – 13,642

Further analysis of the FOI request showed that there was more than double of the number of new vehicles compared to the amount that were scrapped.

In total, 1,889,758 new cars and LCVs were bought by drivers over the same time period.

Also, according to the Mayor of London’s office, up until October 2023, more than 37,200 people had scrapped their vehicle as part of the London Ultra Low Emission Zone

Son is a manager at a steel recycling yard, a few months ago he got a bit of a shock........ a bloke pulls up with a 12 plate ford fiesta titanium, it was a one owner with full service history and had only done 10,000 miles!! Mileage was genuine too and the car was mint, the bloke had come to weigh it in for scrap, he wasn't bothered about selling it on, so he was adamant it is scrapped 😳

He'd declared it sorn and notified DVLA that the car was being scrapped, son weighed his car and quoted him a good price, bloke then said to one of the guys in the yard.....''Get that crane will you and bash the roof in as i don't want this car coming back on the road'', they obliged and gave it a good whacking in, son asked why he wouldn't sell to someone who couldn't afford a decent car, he just didn't care and didn't want the hassle.....Unreal 🙄

Most registered cars become the most scrapped…. Shocker.

Maybe she was in the boot.

Or maybe he offered it to his Grandchild and they told him they'd add a FordPerformance sunstrip and a crackle map...

You'd really need a comparison chart showing car sales, it would show the highest number of cars sold by brand/model would likely be the highest number scrapped...

Does anyone believe anything the Mayor of London's office says ?
