Strange cable unattached after suspension and wishbone work

Featured Replies

Hi Happy Xmas,

Recently took my UK ford focus 1.6 2006 to a garage and apparently needed a front shock and wishbone change. So got the work done.

Car seems to drive ok, but if I look in the driver side front wheel arch there is a looped cable that doesn't seem to be attached to anything!!! See pic.

I will probably take it back after Xmas, but a couple of questions if anyone knows.

1) is it suppose to be there...?

2) can anyone identify the cable and what it supposed to be attached to?

Not a car or ford expert so any brief assistance would be appreciated...

Looks very much like the ABS wheel speed sensor cable. I'm surprised that the ABS and traction control warning lights are not on.

I'm not sure that is an ABS cable.  They weren't separate from the loom on Mk2's iirc.  Also doesn't look like an electrical terminal at one end.  Looks more like a mechanical cable for handbrake/clutch or even an old speedo drive.

I reckon it's an old part from another car that was just used to hold the brake caliper out of the way while they were doing the other work.  I could be wrong though, so definitely take it back as soon as you can.

Please post back here when you find out, I'm really curious now LOL

Thanks for the responses, there are no warning lights on, and there isn't any obvous cables missing to the wheel when matching with the other side. So perhap it is an old cable they replaced, or another cable like TomFocus sugguests... It seem to be almost tied together...

I'll take it back...

Agreed 👍

I was viewing the picture on my phone, but having looked at it again on the laptop it does look like a mechanical cable.

You guys were correct. It was a old BMW cable they used to tie the wires back and forgot to take off.

Took it back and they just pulled it off (didn't even cut it just yanked it until it broke) - I think if they had told me that over the phone it would have saved me a trip! But at least its all done now.

Thanks for the help.
