MK8 140 ST LINE PERF UPGRADES

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I’m still a  newbie to the car scene here. I have a question and I’ve done research on this topic already. The usual response is “why are you doing xyz to a ST LINE etc”. I understand all that, however this is my second car I have to keep it for a while anyways and I love the aspect of upgrading and making the car abit more powerful so it can Pull faster etc. I’ve asked around and I received this message in regards to pushing the power out of the car. My question is would the much work cause the engine to blow or can this be done? Or I have another option of getting a stage 2 remap putting on a intercooler and a downpipe. Please read the below text message from mechanic and any advice would be appreciated. Obviously if this is too dangerous then I’d rather  stage 2 remap with a intercooler and downpipe to push some more power but then leaves me wiggle room in the bank to upgrade brakes and tyres. It’s sitting on 170bhp after a stage 1 remap.

So just to clarify what you will get

Hybrid turbo
Decat
Induction kit
Wet belt
Water pump
Oil pump
Oil and oil filter
Big intercooler with hardened pipes
Antifreeze
Professional remap

2950

1475 down
1475 once job is done and you collect car

I would say order parts asap and book car in for all work to be done end of January to allow us both time for the work being done.

Cheers nick

Hi Usama. So you've already tuned your car from 140 to 170? What engine is in your car? I'm not sure what you have.

If you want more power than 170 then basically change your car to a more powerful one. Going more power on your car will be detrimental.

An engineering company I used to change cam belt on mine said after I asked about remapping "get a faster car" not worth remapping.

It's a 1.0 EcoBoost.  140 is the old wetbelt version, non-MHEV.

Mk 8 140 is 1.0 ecoboost original wet belt version.

170ps seems a lot from just a stage 1 remap - usually you see around 150-155 from a stage 1 on a 1.0 ecoboost.

Interesting that the mechanic is proposing to do the belts and pumps way before the 10 year mark (unless the car has already done a big mileage) and seems to be doing a lot of work for the price - I've seen over £1,000 fitted just for a hybrid turbo.

I wonder what the guy charges just for changing the belts and pumps - might be some interested potential customers on here!

I recall Pumaspeed taking a Mk 7.5 to 200ps on standard internals and the engine seemed to hold up, though the gearbox was wilting! The 6MTT215 in the Mk 8 is supposedly stronger but we have seen a few worrying posts about that too.

Personally I'd put my cash towards changing to an ST (in fact I see I have!😀) but it's the OP's cash, not mine.

I recalled that back in the mists of time Ford had toyed with the idea of a more powerful version of the 1.0 and found the article here:

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/industry/ford-10-get-177bhp

Also the new Puma ST powershift has an approx 170ps version (albeit the revised chain cam engine) which might give an idea of what they think of as a safe reliable limit.

Interesting Eric. Your post reminded me of something I saw on YouTube or was it TV? But anyway the program was about tuning and various stages and how each compared to the different stages of tune. 240bhp one of the Fiestas had
