2009 focus 1.6tdci diesel in sump

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I recently had 4 new injectors in my 2009 focus 1.6tdci, they were coded and the car runs a dream, pulls like a train through all gears, no issues with starting, a small amount of white smoke on startup but that vanishes within seconds. I checked the oil level today and it was way over. I drained it out and there was just over 5litres in and it was runny like water and stunk of diesel.

any ideas what could be the issue, leaking injector nozzle? Failed coding? Coding issue? Faulty injectors??

Any help would be appreciated the garage that carried out the work isn’t open until 8th Jan so will Keep it parked up til then.

thanks in advance

John

This is usually caused by failing DPF regens.  On this engine, there is no additional vaporiser in the exhaust so it uses post injection to fire diesel into the engine after combustion.  That diesel should then enter the exhaust and only ignite when hitting the hot cat, that then goes on to light the soot in the DPF.

This method does leave a lot of unburnt diesel in the cylinders if the engine is shut-off during the regen cycle.  That runs down past the rings if the engine is switched off, or gets forced past as blowby if the engine is excessively loaded while running mid-cycle.

However, it depends how recently the oil was changed as to whether this is just the standard regen dilution over time, or whether there's a fault with the regen, or whether there's a fault with the new injector(s).
