Reduced engine power due to braking - Arrrrrrggghhhh!

Featured Replies

So, like many people I drove through a biiiig puddle this  morning, not too deep.

And, like I do in fords (small if, the watery kind) I dry the brakes.

How do I do it - well, of course, keep a light throttle on to keep the car moving at a slow steady speed while gently touching the brake (i.e. left foot braking).

Car suddenly almost stops!

Try again - this time noted a message on the dashboard display!

So the technique now needs to be speed up, brake lightly, repeat a couple of times.

Now think about this one - you need to dry your brakes, you are almost certainly going up a slight incline e.g. out of a (watery-kind) ford - whats the last thinkg you want to happen?

Well, I've only been driving (cars and bikes) for 57 years through all sorts of conditions, so what do I know about drying out flooded brakes compared to the software "experts" at Ford (car kind).

Ho hum - must try it out when I've got the caravan on the back, now that could REALLY be embarassing especially with the electric full-on-or-full-off handbrake ...

In a waord - or 2 words - IMO its B****Y dangerous!

Disc brakes dry in seconds

You can clear rear drums by gently pulling up the handbrake

Not as dangerous as people catching both throttle & brake in an emergency panic...especially in an auto!
