Rats!

Featured Replies

Morning

Anyone had rats build a nest on their ford engine?

We had loss of power which we've discovered is down to rats nesting under the bonnet and chewing through some wires.

Ford mechanic advised, due to not being under warranty, its best to see if mechanic can solder the wires.

Has anyone had same issue?

Thanks

I can't be sure. What was the rats name? 😂

I live in the country and have found evidence off a mouse nest in previous car under the bonnet.

My current car has had the engine cover chewed, I would guess by mice. Have since removed hedge that car is parked next to and haven't had issue since.

Been lucky that no wiring has been chewed.

Next door neighbors partner passed and his vehicles was parked outside for 6 months before she felt she could get rid, It wouldnt start as rats had eaten most of the wiring.

Can you advise how you fixed the issue with chewed wires? Were they replaced or soldered? Thx

Towed to a garage and loom replaced

Have you got a picture of which wires have been chewed?  That will make a difference regarding whether to just fit a replacement loom section or whether they can be soldered.

You're going to need a good Auto Electrician. Some of those wires will probably have to be replaced.

What is all the white fluffy foam ?

Thank u. Absolutely no idea about the form. A house near us is having some work down plus we live next to allotments. Calling mechanic this morning.

That foam may have come from the 'bin bag' in the passenger side wheel arch.  That's the sort of sound deadening inside it.  Another member had rodents chew that up and leave bits all over the engine bay.

Looks like there's multiple points of damage there, potentially on vacuum pipes as well as wiring.  If that's the only area of damage though, as those wires are fairly thin, it should be easy enough just to replace a few short sections rather than replacing the entire loom in this case.

Thank you! Waiting for garage to call me back re auto electrician availability. Cracking timing when I'm being made redundant 😬 Fingers crossed.
