MK7 Fiesta PCM not programming

Featured Replies

Hi all, new to the club so sorry if this has been asked before.

I'm in desperate need of help and advice.

So I've just purchased a 2011 Fiesta 1.6L Petrol, Auto from a damage/salvage auction. The damage was only skin deep and nothing structural, so I've replaced all the damaged panels. All 4 doors, bonnet, wings and front bumper. The vehicle didn't come with keys, so I've had keys cut and programmed, the vehicle locks/unlocks and the ignition turns on, but the odometer is blank, the security light is flashing and the engine doesn't crank or start.

Presuming the car needs reprogramming, I've had the car at my local Ford dealer twice who have done a diagnostic and told me the PCM was faulty. I bought a used, but tested and working PCM (Same part number) from a scrap yard and gave that to the dealer to install. My dealer has now spent 3 days trying to re-program the replacement PCM and it keeps failing. They have told me to come and get the car as they're not willing to spend any more time on it.

As the dealer can't re-program a PCM to the car, I'm now planning to change all the modules from a donor car, including PCM, Ignition, Transponder, Cluster, BCM and Radio, the only hiccup I foresee is the donor car is a manual, my car is an Auto.

Does anyone know if this might work, or am I wasting my time? This car really starting to test my patience 😭

Hi as you want advice, this really needs to be in the Fiesta section for max visibility. Best to copy it and paste it into that section of the forum.

Hello

I feel your frustration with the car troubles. Here are few things you can check:

  1. Double-check the key programming to make sure it was done correctly.
  2. Confirm the replacement PCM is compatible with your car's make, model, and year, and specifically designed for an automatic transmission.
  3. Retrieve any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) for more insights into the issues.
  4. Ensure the battery is in good condition and has sufficient voltage.
  5. Inspect wiring and connections related to PCM, ignition, and other components for any issue.
  6. Reach out to Ford technical support for guidance.
  7. Consider consulting with an automotive locksmith for key programming expertise.

Be cautions when swapping modules from a donor car, especially considering the transmission compatibility between manual and automatic.

I hope this will helps to getting out the car issues.

Thanks Peter.

I've pretty much done all you suggest and to no avail.

Before I did anything, I scanned the car for codes. And without listing them all, there seemed to be about 6 no communication with the cluster codes.

ABS comm fail, Steering Comm fail, Crash comm fail etc.

I did swap all the modules from the donor car (I've got nothing to lose) and with ALL the modules replaced, the car presented exactly the same symptoms and when I scanned it, exactly the same fault codes.

I'm still to resolve the issue, but it's pretty evident that my issue is not PCM, Module or Key related.

I'm now hunting a wiring or harness fault..

The fight continues!

Let us know how you get on👍
