Opinions on camera image please

Featured Replies

Hi all

I'd like other peoples opinions on this please. I own a 2020 Custom, had it from new. And a 2022 Fiesta, bought used.

The rear camera images on both vehicles are perfect during the day, and the Transit is perfect at night. But the Fiesta image at night is poor. It's been into the local dealer, but they've said there's nothing wrong with it and I shouldn't  compare it to  a Transit as  the camera is in a different place, lights are different, etc etc.

I don't know anyone with a Fiesta with a camera to compare it with

The images below are the Transit and Fiesta parked next to each , on my drive both in reverse gear

1st one is Transit, with brake lights on

2nd is Transit, without brake lights

3rd is Fiesta, with brake lights

4th is Fiesta, without brake lights

Thanks for looking

The Fiesta ones look pretty poor imo.

Couple of night and day images below - these are from my previous 2018 Mk 8 Fiesta but the  current one is just as good.

Thanks for that. Thats more what I think it should look like. Maybe I'll book it back in

Are the top two the Transit ?

I note that the camera image of all 4 photos have the 'caution........' at the bottom of the screen but your camera Rodger has it at the top. Different systems 2022 to 2023 model ?

Out of interest, I'll check if the script on my 23 model is in the same place it was on the 18, next time I reverse!

But as I said, the image is just as clear, irrespective of any changes.

Interesting, its the other way round but still seems pretty clear, considering its p*ssing down here and the lens is wet. Pretty dark too!

(My old car was on Sync 3, this one is 3.4, some Mk 8.5s have Sync 2.5.)

You shouldn't compare day and night images. Night images will always be a lot worse.

The transit probably has a better sensor in it, better in low light.

You need to compare daytime pictures, to see if it is actually internally blurry.

And if you want to compare night pictures, then you need to see other FIesta's cameras in low light.

Hence the night image in my first post on this thread. That red cast in Gary's image looks odd, compared to mine and the Transit.

It would be useful to see a daytime image from his Fiesta also, as you say.

Sorry, it looked like blue sky when I first saw it.

It is still pretty grainy, I think it might just be a sensor that doesn't do well in low light, rather than an actual fault.

Aahhh... remember the olden days when you swiveled your head round to gauge what was behind you. It's a wonder we didn't accidentally wipe out a whole generation without the aid of an actual camera 🤣

Lol, that's due to our new street lights! I agree, can't see a night time image will ever be as good as day time, given the cost of these cameras compared to a decent lens. That red is odd, though.

That was when windows were actually big enough to see out of, without being restricted due to massive pillars, crash beams, head resraints, privacy glass, blah blah.

If you'd said to me 40 odd years ago when we had a Mk 1 Fiesta, that in the future I'd have sensors and a camera to help reverse it, I'd have thought you were nuts!😀

As you can see, during the day, the image is clear. Looks a bit grainy, but that’s down to my phone camera

I think it's just struggling at night. They get pretty caked in dirt this time of year, I have to clean my cam frequently.

Thanks for all the replies.

Car is going in for a service soon, and because I want this sorted out at the same time, but my dealer is pretty unhelpful, I thought I’d do their job for them.

I bought a used camera off eBay. And there’s quite a big difference in quality at night. Still a bit of a red glow, but much clearer.
question is, can I be bothered to go through it all with them and ask them to replace it with a new one under warranty? Now I’ve got “proof” it’s faulty.
Or just leave it, at least knowing that none of the clips holding it in are broken, as probably won’t be the case after they’ve ripped it out.

I’ve also got a piece of rubber trim on the roof where the sunroof closes on it, that’s hanging off in one corner.

Call me cynical, but I just don’t trust dealers to things properly. And I’ve read that they have just glued them back on in the past.

I thought I’d just buy a new one and stick it on myself. I mean..  how expensive can a thin strip of rubber be??

£87.00 is how expensive. So I think I will ask them to do it, and hope they do it right

Anyway a couple of pics of “new” camera image at night. With brake lights and without

Cheers

Gary

I pointed this out to Garmin a few years ago as below - and oddly enough, on their later models, "caution" is now at the top !

"I attach a screen dump from the Drivesmart below, where you can see the text "Check Surroundings for Safety" at the bottom of the screen.  Taken on a drive, but if you are reversing up to a parked car, the text is situated where you probably want to look.  You can see the rear bumper of my car curving up in the lower corners of the "fisheye" image."

I guess it depends on the angle/position of the camera. On my current one, the message is over the bumper as you can see from the image I posted, so makes no difference anyway, in that particular case.

It does seem more logical to have it at the top, though.

So a little update.

I had the camera replaced under warranty today. But that was only after I bought a used one and confirmed that the old one was faulty, and probably because I have a friend at the dealership who spoke to the service manager and convinced him to do it. Shouldn.t be so difficult should it??

Hopefully all good now
