key/lock problem

Featured Replies

Hi all apologies if this is the wrong forum but I'm having a lock nightmare.

Focus MK2 06 plate.

About a week ago it just started randomly unlocking when I locked it with the remote key. The remote would then not lock or unlock the car so I had to use the barrel lock.

When I used the barrel lock, if I don't get the key in the ignition within 5 seconds while it's beeping at me, or open any door apart from driver door, the alarm goes off.

Changed the key battery again and noticed it was a bit sticky so first battery may have leaked. I played around with the key and now the remote works on and off. If I find it doesn't work, I'll open it up and fiddle with the battery contacts then it works.

On about day 6 now and it's doing more fun things, remote is working but when I get near the car the indicators flash slowly, cabin light comes on and the car unlocks itself.

Any advice or recommendations would be fantastic, I thought I'd just replace the key but now that it's playing around when I'm not even in it, I think I may have a central locking/wiring issue.

P.s. a few months ago I came out to the car to find the lights flashing and wipers going mad, so a definite wiring issue then, that time I unhooked the battery overnight and it seemed to fix the issue, this time not so much.
