Bonnet Gas Struts

Featured Replies

Looking for recommendations for gas strut kits to fit the bonnet of a 2017 Focus RS.

Has anyone here fitted them ?

Information welcomed, thanks 😀

I have had struts from this place over the years for different vehs, good prices as well

Don't know if they can help with what you need unofix but worth giving them a call?

This guy might be able to help. He is, and has been highly recommended by the Focus ST guys on their forum (It is a subscription forum) which has loads of info on people fitting struts but I cant copy links due to subscription forum

Of no help whatsoever, but just an excuse for me to show off the bonnet struts I fitted to a previous car, one of the best mods I ever did, you'll not regret it...

The detailing on these would look great at shows with the bonnet up.  (Not cheap though.)

The only issue I've seen is in the early days when people were fitting just one strut.  It pushed the bonnet across slightly when closed so the panel gaps were no longer straight.  Looks like all sets come in pairs nowadays from a quick Google.

It wouldn't dawn on me to only install one strut, was that some kind of misguided fashion statement?

It was used by the macho men with one earring, it helped balance the ride 🤣

The weight of the bonnet can be lifted by one strut and obviously it costs half as much to just buy one.

Some cars only have one fitted from the factory.  (Mk7 Golf for example... :whistling: )

However, as noted on the Golf, the placement needs to be considered so that it doesn't skew the bonnet when closed.

I had dark ice designs struts on my old mk3 focus bonnet. They worked for 8+ years with no problems.

I have Dark Ice Design struts on my Mondeo for 8 years now. no issues.

I have been looking at these but no experience of how good they are

Might be worth a try nbstyling.co.uk  don't open bonnet from catch release. Once open holds bonnet open without support strut.

I guess he means that you have to manually lift the bonnet to its fully open position but then it'll stay up.

Would genuine Ford ones from a Mk 5 Mondeo work?

.... just to be clear, even if you think they will fit, you're not having mine!

But isn't that the whole point of bonnet struts? 🤣 Who wants to 'lift' the bonnet up when you have them!

No.  They mount to the inside of the suspension turret on the Mondeo and there isn't space on the Focus.  The Focus ones are much smaller and fitted between the wing and hinge.
