Overheating

Featured Replies

I have a 2010 s-max

I have had trouble with the car overheating for months now. It reads as overheating but the water is cold. I have taken it to various garages now, all who tell me it's not the head gasket and that the radiator is blocked. All they do is flush the radiator and it's fine for a day or 2 but then I am  back to square one. I have spent £800 so far just to have the same keep happening. Has anyone else had this issue? No-one seems to be able to diagnose a problem yet the more it overheats the chances are the head gasket will go. I have hardly been driving it as I have 4 children and don't want to break down with them. Any advice would be great.

Hello, I'm sure the knowledgeable ppl in the forum will be able to assist but to get things going it might help to say what engine you have.

As the problem seems to resolve each time the radiator is flushed, that says to me that the problem lies there, unless air from some source is collecting there or maybe the water pump is failing preventing cooling.

Seems odd that the garage has charged you all that cash without a fix. It would probably have been cheaper to have a new aftermarket radiator fitted.

Has anyone checked properly for a head gasket leak?

Thank you for your reply.

I have taken it to another garage and they performed a pressure test and said it wasn't the head gasket. They replaced the water return valve and flushed the radiator. The car was OK for a week but has again overheated. It's all such a nightmare. Its a 1753cc.
