Zetec S Won't Start, Help Needed Please.

Featured Replies

Hello, I have got a ford fiesta zetec s mk5 2001 model and I have had it for nine years. I have never had any problems and it has always been full serviced and passed all MOT's. I recently had to leave it for 2 months on the driveway as I was away on holiday. When I returned home the battery seemed to be pretty low and the car would only tick over, I have charged the battery and have tried starting it up numerous times and cannot seem to get it to start. I have a full tank of petrol and and a beautiful spark.

Any suggestions in what I can do to start my car back up. Or what the problem may be. Any help is much appreciated.

have you tried pumping the accel pedel whilst cranking over? is it cranking over nice and fast? is it burping or totally dead?

Yes I have tried pumping the accelerator whilst cranking and no luck, also it sound fine, exactly how it should sound when starting but never seems to fire up just keeps ticking over.

Must be a fuel issue. Does it smell of petrol under the bonnet after cranking it over?

No I cannot smell any petrol at all, I wanted to check the fuel line or fuel rail (if thats what its called) but I'm not sure what I'm looking for. If you could give me any suggestions how to check if fuel is reaching the engine and where to check I would much appreciate it.

First off just sit in the car and switch the ignition on, listen carefully and you can sometimes here the fuel pump start up, if not then try the fuel cut off switch.

It should be behind the footwell left side panel in the passenger side. A red button that should be pushed in.

If you are still unsure after this then try removing a spark plug after turning the engine over to see if it has petrol on it.

Am i incorrect in saying this is a direct injection engine? and that pumping the accelerator will just flood the engine?

i always found that when the zetecs been stalled badly etc and is flooded pumping the accel whilst trying to start it gives it more air and kinda kick starts it and pushes the fuel through. might be wrong though. ob it didnt work here :P
