Garmin SatNav now has 'predictive destination'... what??

Featured Replies

I have an elderly standalone Garmin SatNav which I recently subjected to it's 6 monthly lifetime map update. It also updated the software version at the same time. Ever since the update, it now shows a predicted destination from my 'favourites'. When I drive from home, reaching the 'main' road, at the top of the screen, it states the predicted destination, time to reach, and if any traffic delays.

Now, how on earth does it 'predict' in the 1st place where I am going, which up to now has been 100% correct? I find the whole thing a bit spooky. 😂

If you drive to a certain place at roughly the same time every day then that is the prediction.

My phone tells me how long to work and home when I get in the car because I commute at the same times every day.

I use Waze on my phone and randomly after an update it predicted where I wanted to go that Saturday afternoon as soon as I loaded up the app.

The way they do this is by storing your most common used addresses and the days/times you frequent them. So if you ALWAYS go to Aldi's on a Sunday morning via Garmin, it will store this and ask weather or not you want to go there to save you time programming it yourself.

I was freaked out when I first saw it, so you best bet is to go into settings (like I did lol) and disable most frequented locations.

I'm getting use to it now, and it's almost like your car giving you a hug, and saying I know where you're going, we'll get there safely!

Sounds just like the sort of thing Joe Biden needs 🤣

The moral of this story is to turn the Satnav OFF, when visiting the mistress.......

Stephen, do you use Basecamp and Express ?  I've installed latest maps to devices, but not been able to update maps on PC to use with Basecamp ?

I have no idea what you speak of LOL Like I said, my Garmin SatNav is a decade old, works perfectly, has free lifetime up to date maps, and even when I bought it it was 'used' at less than £70. It also acts as the screen for my reverse camera!

I have no need at all for anything more sophisticated.

(Good tip about the mistress though LOL)
