Gearbox Whining When Accelerating And Cruising

Hi folks

About to drive 420 miles to calais from our holiday in france.

When accelerating and crusing the gearbox develops what can be described as a whining noise.

Is this normal.

Any speed above 40mph in any gear apart from reverse because that whines anyway.

    nope, not normal :P could be gearbox or a wheel bearing if its over 40mph in any gear

    Thought i had something similar noise until the garage took me out on a different bit of tarmac and the noise dissappeared, put down to tyre rumble roar, back onto a normal rough piece of road and the noise came back. Not impressed with the road noise in the new Fiesta.............
