Focus 1.0 Ecoboost strange noise

Featured Replies

I’ve just noticed my 20 plate Focus has been making a noise I don’t think I’ve heard before. It seems to happen when I rev the car gently and then lift my foot off the accelerator. I can also hear it if the car is cruising. I’ve searched this forum for something similar and found the below video which is the exact same thing I’m experiencing but I couldn’t see anyone had replied.

I also heard another 20 plate Focus make the exact same noise in a petrol station the other day.
Any ideas or suggestions? Hoping it’s just normal!

Perhaps it is because of the cylinder. The cylinder deactivates sometimes. So during acceleration it is reactivating.

Did you notice something unusual about performance or any other thing?

Thanks for your reply. Nothing unusual with performance and I can only hear it with the window open. It’s nice and quiet in the car.
It seems to be when the revs are settling that it’s making the noise, so when lifting my foot off the accelerator.
After reading all the horror stories about these engines i think im just abit paranoid.

I am not sure.

But perhaps thats the explanation.

That noise is the recirculation valve venting back into the inlet when the throttle is released.  Completely normal operation.

Brilliant! Thank you for putting my mind at rest!

Ive got the exact same sound.

Is it definitely air venting back in? It sounds very chainy like when you listen to it from the engine side? Have you always had the sound?

Do you still have the noise @Jdgr87

My 2019 focus is making the exact same  sound. I’m paranoid there is something wrong but others say it’s normal! Any advice please?

You commented on another post, using the same video showing the noise, and you said it wasn’t right and needed investigating? Now you’re saying it’s a valve?
Is this sound normal or should I be worried please?

Well, if that's true, I'm obviously not the best person to ask!

Can you link the other thread here?  I suspect it wasn't exactly the same noise or video.

All I can say right now is that a 'psht' noise is normal for the recirc valve on the 1.0 EcoBoost.

That is very odd.  Two members with different names, located hundreds of miles apart, post the same video on two different platforms, with 3 months between them.  I don't know what's going on there.

The Youtube video sounds very different on my laptop compared to the Google Photos one.  That may be due to the quality difference, or the range on budget laptop speakers.  It does still sound worse on Youtube to me.

I don't think I can offer any firm confirmation based on those two videos unfortunately.

Hi

I just noticed this on my 20 plate focus 1.0 Ecoboost has this been resolved?

I still have warranty from the dealer so will be taking it down to check it if I can't find an explanation
