New fiesta key fob

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My car key fob hasn't worked for a while for a distance - have been having to put the key in the door to unlock. I bought a replacement for the end as the inside of the fob was damaged and I tuned it to my car so that the key opens and closes the car from a distance but when I try to start the car with the new key fob it wont start. If i put the old fob on then the car will start fine so clearly the new fob isnt working in some way with the car but I don't know how to fix this. Any help/advice would be appreciated. Car is a 2009 Fiesta

You need to transfer the transponder chip from the old key fob over to the new one.

That would be expected. You have not transferred over the transponder chip.

Depending on the exact design of the keyfob/key the transponder chip is either a little black plastic wedge shaped bit of plastic or a small glass tube embedded in the key handle.
