Does anyone remember their first ford, mine was a 1978 Cortina GL in white, it was an ex company car, 48000 miles, FFSH it was well looked after but needed a good polish.

Because of the condition, I had it "Zebarted", I was part of a group of Cortina's only, we would show off our car's on day's out.

Had it for 8 years before buying a "New car", most regretted thing I ever did, and still haunts me to this very day.

Not sure if it's still around, I've checked the reg, but nothing comes up.

My first Ford was my brand new, 1982 XR2. Sadly before the invention of smartphones, so precious little in the way of photos, but here's what she looked like, I bl**dy loved that car!

1966 Cortina Mk 1 1500 - 6 years old and 60k miles when I got it. Took it well past 100k before selling it to a mate who promptly wrote it off!😠

One of the many Fords I always fancied but never got, over the years. Can't say there's anything now that appeals in the same way as an XR 2, Escort Mexico/RS 2000, Capri 2.8 injection, etc did in their day.

According to the Bank of England inflation calculator**, it would be £17,051 today so I guess it wouldn't have been an investment. Can't put a price on fun, though!

Fascinating stuff - it goes back to 1209. £4995 then would apparently be £8,421,306.88 now. I would have thought it might be even more, but they do add a cautionary note that: 

"comparisons of prices further back in time and over long periods are less accurate than comparisons over short periods in recent years."

 

My first Ford was only 10 years ago.  Mk2.5 Focus Titanium with X pack.

Needed to save some money on running costs and increase reliability after a few lemons so after many months deliberation I bought a nearly new petrol supermini.  Sadly the rough ride aggravated my health conditions so badly it had to be returned and I had to quickly rethink!  Had previously owned Golf's, but couldn't afford one new enough to have cheap running costs with the minimum spec I required: auto lights & wipers, cruise, climate.

Started searching Autotrader by '£30 tax' and saw the odd Mk2.5 Focus 1.6 TDCI 110ps just within budget.  Titanium spec had auto lights & wipers, but no cruise or climate as standard.  I was drawn to this one visually by the xenons & privacy glass but it was out of budget, and had no cruise or climate fitted.

A couple of weeks go by, I find out I can retrofit cruise control easily, then I notice a £500 price drop!  So I decided to go for it...

An excellent choice, best shape by far, love the ford trim, nice seats, hang on to it.

Blimey, had totally forgotten about that thread...  I typed out the full list again in a Word doc earlier this year!  

That list is 7 cars short now...  

But yes, sadly the Focus pictured above was sold in 2018, then failed MOT during covid, and was never returned to the road, so I assume scrapped.

I updated my list on the thread when I got the present car last year. Can't see a further update on the horizon - in for first service yesterday and both the service guy and my usual salesperson said " hang on to that, there won't be any more cars like that". The sales guy was actually just in the process of selling their last ever new Fiesta (a white ST).
