Engine And Transmission Light

Featured Replies

Car: Ford Fiesta

I require some help and advice from fellow forum users. Yesterday evening i got inside my car and turn the key once and again twice when the engine and transmission light came on (engine was still off at this point) saying engine malfunction refer to owners manual. Owners manual only told me what i already knew that the light is engine and transmission. I switch for about minute or 2 (removed the key totally) and then that message and light went away. I drove home no light appeared at all.

Then..... Today i drove the car approx quarter of a mile and then engine and tranmission light came on again, i pulled over for 5 minutes switching off the engine and then retried and then message went away and did not appear at all for the duration of my commute (15 miles).

Please can anyone advise me on whether this a common problem or whether it worrying about? Your comments will be mosted welcomed.

sounds like you have an intermittant problem,if the eml has come on it should have stored a fault code which will have to be read s as to asatain the problem.

The issue has not come back since yesterday morning. I have ordered a Obd2 cable and software to read the codes. So hopefully its not a major issue.

Had 3 Engine malfunction errors which disappear after a few minutes, or upopn restarting the car. However, every time it has been to the garage, the fauklt is never logged by the ECU. Have you ever heard such poor programming? Errors that don't write to the log files?

Software upgrades solve the problem so I will assume the problems are purely software bugs as opposed to actual mechanical/electronic failings in the vehicle.

will ford do the software upgrade ? my car is still under warranty so if it is covered i rather do it now than later.

Im getting the software and cable from ebay (two different ebayers). The software was about £5 and the cable is about £15. Once i receive it i will post back saying how good it is. i planned to use it on many different make and model of cars.

I got my car booked in at my local ford dealer to get the engine and transmission light checked out. They repaired the problem by replacing the glow plugs and the glow plug relay, the good thing was it was done under the warranty.

If anyone know in a diesel especially my 1.6 TDCI MK6 that when do the glow plug get used? my understanding was only in cool temperature but know i like to know approx how cold the temperature requires to be.

I received the odb cable yesterday and loaded few software and its great. I been testing the live data and the great thing is it has ability to read the error codes and clear them. i will be messing around with this all weekend.

Well done @LCCRADDO you win January 2023's prize for resurrecting the oldest post. At a full 12 years old I doubt anyone will beat that !!!

Or will they ?

Would quoting a post be classed as a one post wonder even?

This record will NEVER be beaten
