Possible MAF (Mass Air Flow) cable problem

Featured Replies

I have a Focus diesel estate Mk2 1.6 (2010) and, in putting oil in it yesterday, I noticed this melted cable sheath over to the right side of the engine bay. I asked a neighbour and he thought it was to do with the MAF - a sensor cable, perhaps? I have got the car booked in next week but wondered if anyone here could say what I'm looking at? Also, the silencer pad on the underside of the bonnet was melted in the corresponding area. I have no other lights on the dash other than Oil Service which has only just appeared. I could have been driving with this for weeks - I have no idea.

spelling & grammar!

Your neighbour is correct.

The cable gets disconnected from the Sensor when removing the Airbox, so someone in the past may have forgotten to reconnect it and it has been left hanging and ended up against a hot part of the Engine and melted causing a small fire as well, or maybe someone in the past has fitted an aftermarket Airbox and left it hanging - just educated guess's as to why it is like that.
