Headlight bracket replacement?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I recently snapped the brittle headlight bracket holding the fiesta headlight in and as you can see is currently being held on more so by a cable tie. Now whilst the headlight is secure and have been told it’ll pass the upcoming MOT, I’m curious if you can replace the bracket itself or if I’ll need a whole new headlight unit? I have seen you can buy the brackets on eBay but I wouldn’t see how you would swap them out without some form of plastic welding perhaps? (If that’s even the right terminology😅)

Plastic welding is the correct term.  You can weld plastic using a soldering iron if you've got one.

For the kit above, you would have to cut the old bracket off cleanly at the right place before being able to weld the new bracket on.

PS - That is NOT the way to cut a cable tie!  Always cut them off square so there's no risk of anyone cutting hands on them.

Ah thank you! The unit will be replaced then in due course as I have no idea how to weld!🤣

PS - You can blame my neighbour for that cut he did it not me😋

It's fairly easy tbh, not like metal welding.  Plastic melts easily and then you just mash the two melted parts together.

Could try gluing them on instead, but it won't be as strong.  Though I agree, much easier to replace the whole cluster if you can source one cheaply enough.
