Timing belts

Featured Replies

Hi my 2009 focus is long overdue a timing belt change but my main concern is the fact it has also has a wet belt is it possible to do a timing chain conversion?

Presumably a 1.8 TDCI?

Yes, you can buy wetbelt to chain conversion kits for around £200 for that engine.

I thought it was only the 1.0 Ecoboost engine that had a wet timing belt, all other engines have a dry belt or chain. Plus I've read (on Fiesta section) all Focuses with an ecoboost have the newer chain anyway.

Sadly not.

Even my own Focus Mk4 2.0 Ecoblue has a wet timing belt.

Ford love a wetbelt, they've been fitting them to the 1.8 TDCi since 2008!  And as Unofix says, 2.0 EcoBlue uses wetbelts as well.

Also worth noting that only the Mk4 Focus EcoBoost's all have chain drive.  The Mk3 Focus 1.0 EcoBoost has the same wetbelt engine as used in the Mk7 Fiesta.

Mk2 Focus never had an EcoBoost engine.  The only wetbelt on those is the 1.8 TDCi from 2008 onwards.  Pre-2008 they used a chain in the same setup, which is why a conversion is easily done on this engine.  It is not easily done on the 1.0 EcoBoost.
