MOT smoke opacity fail, no fault codes

My 2013 tourneo has failed MOT on smoke test.  No fault codes are present. Ive tried various fuel additive cleaners to no avail.

When revved quickly to around 4,000 rpm I get a puff of black smoke from the exhaust.

I'm guessing it could be blocked DPF, egr valve or injectors playing up.

The question is how do I isolate the problem rather than just spending a fortune replacing parts randomly?

    get the DPF to regen if not blocked solid, or pay for one of the engine cleaner guys, EGR and injectors would throw a code depending on what your reading it with.
