Multiple Codes and 16 flash code.

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've got an old C-max 2004 2.0tdci that has been a great workhorse for the last 5 years of ownership. I went to it the other day and as i turned the ignition there was a fizz. She now cranks but wont fire, has multiple codes and the 16 flash code going off. She has had her cluster repaired before I bought her, (I noticed the bezel was cracked so I asked). I have had a few strange things crop up over the years. The crankshaft sensor keeps breaking down and for some reason the radio comes on when it feels like it. Usually in the middle of the night. The codes are

P0A09

P0562

P060A

P1609

P0642

P0652

P0625

P1213

I've tried the "whack the top of the dash" with no success and I've checked the earth under the fuse box.

Is this the Cluster or am I chasing several other faults and I should just let her go? Thanks  in advance for your help.

Iain

Sounds like you have water ingress in the GEM, a common issue especially with older models.

Yep, that, as Unofix says, or the cluster repair has failed again.

Sometimes the solders are just reflowed, not removed and re-soldered, which isn't a long lasting or even good repair

Thanks. Would that bring up the 16 flash code? I can see it doing the radio. Any suggestions in what to do next?

The PATS immobiliser is part of the GEM.

You need to first disconnect the negative lead from the battery. Then remove the GEM which is part of the passenger compartment fuesbox. Disconnect all the connectors from the GEM and inspect the circuit board and all the plugs and sockets. Look for corrosion and/or water ingress.

You can get a replacement from a scrapyard but it will need to be the exact same part number. You can reprogramme your cars "AsBuilt" data using FORScan.

Thank very much. I'll set to tomorrow. I need to get FORScan. It doesn't work on a Chromebook.

Secondhand gem unit fitted, same part number. Now no central locking and still no start.

Have you programmed the replacement unit with your own cars "AsBuilt" data ?

A PATS error code 16 is a communications failure between the Instrument cluster and the PCM.
The usual suspect is the instrument cluster solder joints but it can also be wiring related.
