@TomsFocus don't forget the MK2.5 run-out model "Sport", with the nav. They were quite well specced

Sport was a weird spec.  Basically just a Zetec with (non-heated) Titanium cloth seats, sporty snowflake alloys and a sat nav. Not sure who the target market was meant to be for that.

They all seem to be suffering now that they are so old and high mileage

Pre-2009 Mk2.5 DPF was awful.  Old Eolys system.  Would avoid all of those.

Post 2009 Mk2.5 uses a coated DPF which is much more robust.  Mk3 also uses a coated DPF.  Didn't have issues with the DPF on either of those myself.

All DPF's eventually fill up with ash though.  So by 12-14 years old, I wouldn't be surprised if they needed professional cleaning or replacement.

Thank you guys for all your help and advice. We're going to view a 12 plate 1.6 petrol later. FSH, Mot history pretty decent and it's had cambelt and w/pump changed already with receipts.

Anything we should look/listen out for?

All of the diesel Focus's with those engines at that age will have a DPF.  It won't always be listed in the title though.

No water leaks in the boot & spare wheel well

Air conditioning should be icy cold at the vents

Electrical items all working including steering wheel controls and horn

2 keys - as they're expensive to replace if missing

And clutch if that's still original

Not much to check on the engine itself - just make sure there are no signs of coolant leakage from the reservoir or thermostat housing and no major oil leaks.

Thank you so much! Any noises we should listen for?

Nothing Focus specific that I can think of.

Just knocks and bangs from suspension.  Blows from the exhaust.  Squeaks or rattles from the engine, etc.
