2.2 S-Max: P02E9, P246B, P2463 DTC codes

Featured Replies

Hello All,

First post here so hoping I'm in the right spot/Forum!

I've recently experienced the P20E9, P246B and P2462 codes which in turn have illuminated the engine management light. Previously the P20E9 "Diesel intake Air Flow Position Sensor Circuit High" wasn't logged and having seen the P246B and P2462 codes before when the fuel vaporiser was blocked I swapped it again for a new one and checked the 5A fuse which was fine but this hasn't solved the issue. Wondering if anyone has seen the P20E9 DTC before and if so how did they fix it? I've done some research and seen the sensor is part of the throttle body which are prone to failure, and when turning off the vehicle you can hear the throttle body still energised for a good time after.

Does the P20E9 DTC also cause the reason for the regen conditions not being met? I've ordered a new throttle body in preparation but wanted to see if anyone else had seen this problem.

  • P20E9 - Diesel intake Air Flow Position Sensor Circuit High
  • P246B - Vehicle conditions incorrect for Diesel particulate filter regeneration
  • P2462 - Diesel Particulate Filter - Soot Accumulation

Thanks in advance,

Dan B.

Hey Dan_B1990

Just curious to know if you ever resolved this issue?

I have a similar issue with my S-max.

Cheers

Mat

As a relatively new member, I notice a lot of posts often go unanswered (maybe because no one has any idea?) and (common to all forums?) threads that never get a post that explains how, if or when the fault was actually fixed?
This looks like two separate faults that could be interacting.
Full investigation of all relevant PIDs and codes in Forscan always help.

Firstly, from the very limited OP, the standard vapouriser plug that can fail by becoming clogged (check pipework by clamping fuel pipe to avoid need for priming) and blow through using Mityvac or similar. No pressure should be held.
AND check the glow plug for resistance (nominal 1.1 Ohms  between 0.8 & 1.3 is acceptable to Ford  BUT if it's on the low side, the fuse may still blow so plug will need to be changed. Mine was within that spec but changing it fixed the problem of the fuse blowing?) after testing the two fuses that control the system (one for glow plug, one for pump and any relays?)
If the plug is blocked but the glow plug sound, you may be able to clean out the blockage?

Once that side of things is sorted, if everything else is fine and DPF not too blocked, vehicle should start to regenerate using the plug?
The other issue of the "throttle" air flow position sensor thingy - I believe it exists but still don't know why it is necessary but that would obviously need to be tested as anything on the induction/exhaust sides can prevent regeneration being permitted?

That's the best (as a "good neighbour") I can suggest (you'll notice my many ifs, buts, maybes, question marks etc).
If I'm wrong, l may be challenged but like many on here it's often blind leading blind in some cases 😉

Hello,

Apologies for the delayed reply!

I changed the throttle body and then ran a regen, vehicle ran perfectly after and no DTCs

I took apart the old throttle body and the plastic cogs had failed/broke on a large section.

Kind regards,
