Ecoboost wet cambelt

Featured Replies

Amazing how Ford still specify 10 years or 150,000 miles before changing the belts

Just had my cambelt changed after 7 years and 100,000 km (62,500 miles)

Just in time as the belt was showing signs of wear with cracking in various places.

Generally, if you spec 10 years or 100,000 miles, that means, in tests, the belt lasted 20 years or 250,000

They give that figure to be on the safe side.

But I wonder if they took the strains of constant Stop/Start into account?

Stop/Start could've been added late into development and not fully tested for.

Then, obviously, if you haven't changed the oil regularly, or used the wrong oil or added flush, or petrol, it will degrade even quicker (or a stiff balancer shaft on an auto, that strips the teeth off)
