PCM Replacement

Featured Replies

Laser KQ 2001 Australia.  ZM 1.6 engine automatic.

I have an Input Turbine Speed Sensor fault code.

Checking with a CRO shows the sensor is outputting a nice sine wave 2.2V P-P

The wiring is continuous back to the PCM and I can measure the sensor resistance at 370 ohms.

So I tried replacing the PCM with a known working one but the car won't start.  I gather I have to change something else as well, but what is it?

Thank you.

Gyro

If it's exactly the same part number as the old one then suspect that it's the immobiliser system still trying to talk to the old car.

You will probably need to reprogram the keys to the new PCM etc or even get the cluster and keys from the donor car too

I have the donor car.
I have seen on  ebay that "security sets" consist of the PCM, another box that might be the immobiliser, the ignition key barrel, the door barrels and the keys.
For example https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/204392752487?itmmeta=01HSJ3QXM2J54TJFZ7QFT2A1Z1&hash=item2f96c1e567:g:DEoAAOSwrilkrLAl&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAAwNZax3Wb56c86ceGCQZhSvhCV8P7Dp1GOy%2FqjBkuZpr5PSjgyoPBI8XO3a%2BFQTMpmqE7Om%2B6%2BN%2FVHro%2B5SBouIOLC6LeErFLSvATx9UOXqVXkXD%2FI%2FCCqR9JLDGFeOqErJ6Iv24%2BGdjop1qSjXEGumw%2B%2FQy5C83Tm6oL719lKUhD%2BFzaytIxRJCGF6yoNAFlXtLQ2Bl5iVv6uI3K2lmsiazW0VX1jhBIWhLiw7Ryzau5Dj8s%2BTveeWFI1Kcduy0P8A%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR6za38PMYw

Note the cluster is not included.

I have found the other box and swapped it in, still no go.  The keys themselves don't have any batteries.
Do I need the ignition barrel?

The keys have a unique transponder chip inside of them. No batteries are needed.

Should be key in, turn to number 1, push pin in hole and pull out barrel

Parts car column is out.  Halfway through main car removal.
Plan is to start it with parts PCM and column.
Then jack it up and see if Input Turbine Speed fault code is thrown at 40Kmh.

  • Author

Well it starts.
The bad news is the fault code appears anyway.

I tried changing the speedo sensor and thought it was working.
Put it back together and the fault is still thrown after a few seconds.

Well found that solenoids B and C had the wiring switched.
Fixed that...... and still a fault code.
