Fusion keyfob pogramming problem

Featured Replies

I've recently bought a 2006 Ford Fusion (the UK Fiesta based one)

When I test drove it the remote central locking worked, annoying within a day or so it stopped working, central locking still works with a key in the drivers door though.  Any tricks the seller might have employed to make the key work briefly?

Tried to replace the battery which was a mission as someone has previously superglued one side of the key together, and it appears to be missing a black plastic cover on the PCB according to the photos I've seen online.

I replaced the battery and put a spacer over it to mimic the black cover I think is missing from my key to ensure good battery contact.  Key still doesn't work.

I tried programming it using the guides online (ignition on to II and off 4 times) I get a beep but no light by the clock, and no response or beeps when pressing the keyfob.

Just want to check I'm not missing trick with the programming, I think there is a box of old Transit 3 button fobs at work from the same age but there is not much point messing about with trying to program them if I'm not using the correct procedure to get the car into learn mode.

Thanks for any help

If it was working then it doesn't need programming.

Put a good quality battery in, not Ebay or Poundland and make sure it's making good contact.

The contacts are in the cover

use a multimeter to check if the battery is a good 3V once put in its place

it might be that one of the three hinges there need to be pointing up

replaced battery in mine and seems to work easier if both plastic pieces are pushed together

otherwise, there's always the possibility the receiver in the car is not working

dont know how to check further

You need to take the key to a key workshop. There, the technicians will look to see if the key is transmitting a radio signal to the car. If there is no signal, then the key needs to be repaired. If there is signal, you need to programm it in the car (using the guides online (ignition on to II and off 4 times))

Thank goodness you turned up, that poor OP has been wandering around for 5 months not knowing what to do 🤣

That very much depends on what method you are going to use.

On a point of technicality it is the car that gets programmed not the key.

if you have FORscan you can do both

I have tried to Program a new key by switching the iginition from zero to II x four, but there is no beep. Is there a different method for a 2011 Ford Fusion?

This the procedure stated by Ford. You'll need BOTH original keys that were supplied with the car...

Otherwise, you'll need the help of ForScan, OR, a decent local locksmith who should be able to programme it for you

SO, I have now programmed the new fob's using the Fiesta Method.

My next question is:

I tried starting the car with the key part of the old key connected to the fob part of the new key.

I couldn't get past the immobiliser.

Probably a simple answer, but why?

Is there an immobiliser chip in the new fob?

the fobs contain a proximity sensor, usually a little glass vial fitted in the casing.

How do I know that?

I'll have a look later. If the new one doesn't, where do I get one from?

Just swap it from your old fob.  I think it'll be a black plastic rectangle in your fob.  The glass rod was in the earlier fobs.

It would help us advise the correct procedure & location of the chip if you can confirm what kind of key you have by posting a photo...
