Squeaky Puma

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm new to the forum, hopefully someone can help me with my Puma.

I've got a 23 plate Puma ST line 125 hybrid, the car has developed a horrible squeaking/grinding sound when the cars engine is cold. This is an intermittent fault but extremely annoying when it happens. The dealership have taken my car in 3 times but can't diagnose the problem even after I've provided numerous videos of the issue and shown the dealership where the sound is coming from.

I'm interested if anyone else has had a similar issue, because if Trust Ford won't diagnose the problem I'm totally lost on what I should do next.

Contact Ford CRC tell them you wish to reject vehicle

Where is it coming from?

Can you link any of the videos here?

Has anything been replaced at all so far?

First thought would be the generator belt or pulley, but I really hope a Ford tech would be able to diagnose that.

Second thought would be the waterpump, there will be the odd one with a manufacturing defect.

At the other end of the concern scale there's the timing chain, oil pump or turbo.

Very difficult to be any more specific without further info.

I've also escalated the issue to Ford Central Team, however, the dealership is ignoring their calls.

That sounds like it's inside the car, not engine related?

Blower motor would be my guess now.  Can you turn the blower fan right off in the Puma as a test?

The other option is some plastic rubbing somewhere around the dash or seats.  Belt buckles used to do this but modern Fords generally have a felt backing between the buckle and seat now.  Maybe get an assistant to push on various parts of trim while driving to see if they can work out what it is.

It's hard to tell from the video if it's the same, but we had a similar sound and it turned out to be the spare wheel in the boot rubbing against the body inside what they call the 'Megabox'.
