DPF

Featured Replies

Hello, could someone tell me at what speed, gear & how long for I need to drive a 2013 ford focus to start the DPF regen?

Does it have to be a constant speed?

Would usinf DFP cleaner be enough to clean it out?

Hello John, you must be one of the founding members of the Ford Owners Club. I see you joined way back on the 15th February 2008, and you're already making your third post 🤣

In answer to your question, there is no set or fixed distance/time but as a general rule if you get the engine up to normal operating temperature, then drive in 4th gear for 30 miles at a constant 60mph it will in most cases start and complete a regen.

The alternative is to use FORScan and do a static regen which takes about 45 minutes.

I used to just thrash down a motorway slip road in 3rd.  That creates a high DPF pressure which should trigger a regen.  Then keep the speed up on the motorway.

If it's a 2013 1.6 TDCI, the regen mapping is awful, you'll feel a sudden jerk through the whole car when the regen starts.  Not sure if the regen is any smoother on the 2.0 of that era.

Yes it's a 1.6 TDCI

You should feel it start then.  I seem to remember it only took about 10 minutes at a constant 70mph on that car.  It will regen around town at 30mph, but takes longer to complete.

If you keep the air con switched off, you can listen out for the radiator fan running at full speed while the regen is in progress.  When the radiator fan stops running, you know the regen has completed.  The engine note is also more rough & grumbly than normal.
