Buying a 2021 Ford Transit Custom 280 EcoBlue

Featured Replies

Hello, I've seen a bunch of Ford vans today and i think i settled on one.

It's a 2021 2.0 diesel, with 104bhp, manual and has around 40,000 miles. It has the Sync 3, with a heated windshield and xenon lights. It hasn't had its first MOT either.

I wanted to ask what is the difference between a 130bhp engine and a 104bhp engine.

I'm not sure if its the matter of just a remap to get that extra 30hp, or if engine internals are different. I saw that celtic tuning gets this engine to 190hp..

and please, let me know of things i should look out for when buying this van soon, it does come with 3 month warranty as well.

Thank you!

Ah, I seen that the mk8 transit has a wet timing belt, and I dont know if that's a good idea.

I believe the pre facelift mk8 doesn't have a wet belt.. is this correct?

2.0 EcoBlue uses wetbelts.

2.2 TDCI uses chains.

I don't know enough about Transit Mk's to confirm whether the switchover was at Mk8 facelift or not.

I like the MK8 Transits, but the wetbelt might be a potential problem..

Apparently, every transit from 2016 has a wetbelt..

Let's say I change the wetbelt every 60k miles, and clean out all belt material from oil sump, would that avoid the engine dying thing?

Should do, as long as you change the oil regularly, always use the correct Ford spec oil, never use any engine flush, don't do many short journeys and don't leave the van sitting unused for extended periods of time.

Tom, thank you so much for all the info, but i think i'll go with a transit with a 2.2 engine to be on the safe side

Good move. The 2.0 isn't the most reliable.
