2015 Washer feed blocked (somewhere)

Featured Replies

Dear all,

I've got a 2015 EcoSport (Titanium).

The previous owner had let the windscreen washer reservoir go completely dry.

I've since filled it up and intermittently activated the washers for around 10-15mins with no joy.

The pump is working, just no fluid is coming out of the front jets. The rear dribbles after a little while, but not working anything like it should be.

I've disconnected the front pipes at the nozzles and no fluid is making it to the feed line.

I've read that there is a filter between the pump and the pipe to prevent debris getting into the fluid pipeline.

Presumably, this is near the pump and accessible via the front wheel arch liner, is that correct?

Does anyone have a diagram showing this filter, its location or a video showing a tear down of this area?

Any help appreciated! Cheers!

The filter is actually inside of the screenwash pump. Yes you need to remove the wheel arch liner to get at it.

Thanks for the info, unofix!

Is it possible to clean the filter, or does it mean a new pump unit?

They can normally be washed out with hot water and a small brush

@Emil Jabo, sorry, perhaps a little late to the party, but I recently solved this issue on my Mk8 Fiesta ST-3.

I posted how I managed to clear the system without having to remove the filter in this forum, which might help you:

On most cars you can access the pump by removing the fog light trim from the front, although it is definitely less hassle to remove the wheel arch lining if you are able to.

If this post is too old by this point, I hope you managed to solve the problem. If not, hopefully this gives you another avenue to explore.

@MattGST21, no problem and thanks for posting info on a solution.

As it happens, I hadn't had time yet to look into this issue, but your post led to me using a handheld electric tyre pump to blow back down the pipe to try to dislodge any gunk. I connected the pump and blew down the washer fluid pipe until it was bubbling in the reservoir and it did dislodge the blockage in the filter and the washers worked perfectly!

However, this made it possible to see another issue that I have with this system and that is that when I filled the reservoir to the top, all the water/fluid leaked out of the bottom underneath the car:

So, I've also either got a crack in the reservoir, or the pump or the deal around the pump is not connected properly... Funnily though, when the washers are being operated, the leak from underneath the reservoir stops...

I've got a small oil leak I need looking at, so I'll get the garage to take a look at the reservoir/pump while they have it up in the air.

Cheers for following up this post though. 🙂

@Emil Jabo, no worries at all! I'm glad you managed to clear the blockage at least.

Hopefully you can get the potential leaks sorted without too much hassle or expense 🙂
