Mondeo Mk5 front drop links problem

Featured Replies

Thought I'd take on the 30 min job of changing the front drop links on my 64 plate mk5 Mondeo diesel estate. Easy job or so it should be.

The old drop link top and bottom nuts are locked in place and the thread is rotating with the nut. Easy. Get a Allen key and insert it in the end to hold the thread still. Not so easy... No hole in the end for an Allen key. Unreal.

Anyone got any hacks on how this can be done? How can I hold the thread still while rotating the nut? Access is also a nightmare.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use a angle grinder cut them off

Second the angle grinder quickest and easiest.

Tried the grinder method on one of them today. It was hard work and took ages.

Surely must be an easier way. They're a serviceable item after all.

Normally if there going to be replaced a decent pair of vice grips on the drop link ball stops the thread rotating. Usually if drop links don't have Allen key hole, there's a couple of flats to put an open ended spanner
