Where to put the key to program it with Forscan, Galaxy 2015

Featured Replies

I have a Galaxy 2015 model and I want to program an extra remote key. I figured out where you can buy the appropriate (blank) key and how you can use Forscan to program it. The only think I can't figure out is where in the car you have to put the key in the car in order to program it. Is it next to the SD card slot?

It very much depends where in the world you are. If you are in the UK or Europe then you can't programme a 2015 vehicle to recognise a new key using FORScan.

Remember that it is the vehicle that gets programmed to accept a new key.

On a UK/European vehicle there are 3 parts that need to be dealt with for the keyfob to work.

  1. The metal key blade needs to be cut.
  2. The remote Lock/Unlock buttons
  3. The PATS immobiliser chip

The metal blade can be cut by many independent key cutting shops, but many will refuse to do it if you didn't buy the key from them.

The remote Lock/Unlock of the buttons can still be programmed in to the vehicle using FORScan

On 2013 and newer vehicles, Ford removed the ability for programmes like FORScan to be able to add additional transponder chips in to the vehicles memory. This means that you won't be able to programme in the new keyfob and start the car.

If you still want to obtain an additional 'remote' key fob for you car, seek out a local independent auto locksmith.  They should have the appropriate sophisticated software to carry out the programming (as already correctly stated, ForScan won't do it). Also, you should ask then to supply the fob as well as (again stated) as most won't be interested in messing about with a 3rd party key...

Ok, as I'm in Belgium, that rules out the possibility to program the new key myself. That leaves no other option than ask the dealer but their prices are outrages in my opinion.

Agreed.

I offered the advice to go to an independent auto locksmith (NOT a main dealer!!). Don't you have those in Belgium?

If you have a 2015 Mk4 Galaxy then you can program an extra key yourself.

I had only 1 key and programmed a new one (old Mondeo Mk5 key) with Forscan. You need the latest paid version and recomended cable. You need to put the key inside the armrest for it to be recognised and programmed. There is a specific place outlined in the manual to put it. I think there is a method to add a third key if you have 2 others without Forscan but I am not sure of that procedure. I have a UK car with keyless ignition/entry.

There was an update to Forscan around December last year that allowed key programming on Mondeo Mk5 and Galaxy Mk4/S Max Mk2.

That's useful to know. I just need to get the little grey cells to log that now 🤣

I'm guessing with each passing year, the older the cars get, the security risk of programming keys with ForScan decreases. Hence the software update...

Yes very probably the case. That would explain why you can make as many keys as you like for any of the EV's 🤣🤣
