Ford Fiesta 2018 1.1 Ti-VCT - Wet Belt?

Featured Replies

Hi all

We've got a Fiesta with the 1.1 Ti-VCT engine and I've heard of the ecoboost engines having issues with the wet belt going early.  But does this model have the same belt and issue?

The car has done around 50k miles and I'm worried about it possibly going and landing us with a huge bill.  Wondering if it does have one of these wet belts if it's better to move to a different car instead?

Any advice greatfully appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Martin,

Yes it does. Only you can answer the second part of the question, but if the car has been regularly serviced, preferably annually, using the correct oil and no engine flush, you should be ok for a couple of years at least. The official belt change interval is 10 years maximum but it is starting to look prudent to do that earlier, perhaps at 8 years.

Bear in mind that the cost of that is up to £1800 at Ford dealers, some independent specialists are cheaper.

Potential good news: we don't see many instances of belt failure on this engine compared to the turbo (ecoboost) version. Possible explanations:

- There are fewer about anyway

- The engine is less stressed without the turbo

- The fuel injection system is different, port rather than direct injection, which may reduce the risk of oil dilution which is a possible contributor to the issue of belt degredation.
