Ford Fiesta MK8 St-3 2019 vibration when stopped and driving

Featured Replies

Hi

I was just wondering if anyone would know what this could be, the car was making a banging sound when taking off i then got a Revo Rear torque mount fitted which took that banging noise away but when the car is idling or driving it makes a vibration noise and gets louder if i was to be in the wrong gear. The vibration goes throughout the whole car and seems to come from the gear box area. I took it to a garage and they couldn't see a fault has anyone got any ideas?

That's the downside of fitting a Revo (polybush) mount.  The original mounts are soft rubber, designed to absorb vibration, but not so good at holding the engine steady.

Much debate on this one on ST specific forums, but as Tom says, its a trade off between rigidity and vibration - some aftermarket mounts seem to be worse than others in that respect.

Ford uprated the mount on the Mk 8.5 facelift and I don't notice vibration with mine. Owners who have fitted one to earlier cars say it is less prone to wheel hop, so possibly a compromise worth trying.

That said, it's notable that some owners say they have no wheel hop problem with the original Mk 8 bushes whereas others do, so different driving techniques are a factor.
